MOTHS at my home balcony MV lamp
I use a 125W Mercury Vapour lamp for attracting night-flying insects. I have the option of taking the light (powered by a gasoline generator) and white sheet out into the wild or simply set the light up on mains power on my balcony at home.
Although the latter is fairly limiting due to often small numbers of attendees and usually the same species, it is significantly more convenient, particularly if the weather is variable. My balcony is tiled (not my choice of design) and although I will often erect a white sheet also, in that environment, many moths settle on the walls and floor.
(NB. I use the light only for photographing night-flying insects. I do not trap or collect specimens.)
